The challenge

Students pursuing international education must navigate a fragmented process: career assessment, university research, visa documentation, SOP preparation, interview readiness, and resume writing. Each step typically runs through a different tool or intermediary. Counsellors and mentors had no shared workspace to coordinate activity, track student progress, or intervene at critical decision points. The Converge team needed a single platform that connected every participant, for every stage, across web and mobile.

How we approached it

Appetals designed and built a multi-platform application spanning Android, iOS, and web. The architecture served four user types under one system: students, counsellors, mentors, and administrators. Each user type received a role-specific interface within the same operational backbone.

The platform covered nine functional modules:

  1. Profile and account management covering academic history, test scores, intended field of study, and work experience.
  2. Appointment booking with calendar integration across Google Calendar and iCal for student-counsellor and student-mentor sessions.
  3. Dashboard presenting personalised articles, videos, courses, appointments, and task queues at each login.
  4. Content library with categorised articles, videos, documents, and templates calibrated to each stage of the admissions process.
  5. Career module including questionnaires, career videos, and a structured process flow for career-path selection.
  6. Visa application module covering documentation requirements, finance-related content, and a guided chatbox.
  7. University applications module guiding students through submission requirements and compliance with each institution's application process.
  8. Interview preparation using mock videos, FAQs, group chat, and counselling sessions.
  9. SOP and resume modules providing questionnaire-driven drafting, approval workflow, article support, and template-guided resume writing.

Technical scope: JavaScript backend with MySQL, AngularJS web application, native Android application in Java, native iOS application in Swift. Built to serve all four user types on a single shared data layer.
