The challenge

India's media and entertainment sector entered its digital transition without established technical playbooks. Zee's digital media arm needed to build revenue-generating digital products in a market where OTT delivery infrastructure, mobile video standards, and in-vehicle entertainment were category-defining problems, not incremental improvements. The challenge was not selecting technology. It was building a viable commercial model while the technology itself was being defined, and doing it at broadcast scale.

At Avani TV Solutions, the problem was narrower and harder. Streaming live television to a moving vehicle required three solutions at once: network handoff, buffering under variable signal, and content rights management. No rights framework had anticipated in-car entertainment as a delivery context.

How we approached it

As CEO of Digital Media Convergence Ltd. at Zee Entertainment, Ishwar led the build and commercial launch of India's first OTT platform and India's first mobile TV platform. These were not feature extensions of an existing Zee product. They were new commercial entities built from the ground up, requiring the full stack from content licensing through delivery infrastructure to consumer acquisition.

At Avani TV Solutions, Ishwar led the launch of the world's first live TV streaming service for cars. The product required three integrations: live broadcast streams with automotive entertainment systems, real-time signal continuity across cell towers, and content rights negotiation for a delivery context no broadcaster had previously licenced.

The engagement architecture across both organisations combined product strategy, technology build, content rights, commercial partnerships, and go-to-market in a single leadership mandate.

“No direct client quote available. Ishwar was the senior operator at both organisations. This case study functions as a founder-credential case study rather than an external client testimonial. Note for Ishwar at Day 21 review: This case study type is different from the others. It documents Ishwar's leadership work as an operator, not Appetals' work as an external firm. Consider whether the /work page should have a separate section for "Ishwar's operating career" distinct from "Appetals client work." If this is positioned as an advisory case study under the Marg Advisory door, the framing should be explicit: "This is the operating experience behind the advice." ---”

Outcomes

Outcome metrics: not surfaced in archive as discrete figures. Confirm specific metrics with Ishwar.

Qualitative outcomes confirmed in profile context:

  • India's first OTT platform launched at commercial scale under this engagement.
  • India's first mobile TV platform launched as a separate commercial product.
  • Avani TV Solutions launched the world's first live TV streaming service for cars, a category-defining product with no prior market reference.
  • These engagements are the primary anchors for Appetals' media and entertainment ICP credential and are the proof point most frequently cited in Ishwar's media and entertainment outreach.
